I know a woman who, as a young 20-something, worked at the flower shop of The Brown Palace more than 60 years ago. She still remembers what a charming shop it was and how divine it always smelled. She recalls all of the weddings they prepared flowers for and bouquets for famous guests who they weren’t allowed to discuss. It was all very hush-hush, glamorous and elegant. She’d also heard rumors of the underground tunnels that were used during prohibition or to enable ladies of the night to visit travelling businessmen! Oh my!
The Brown is still glamorous and elegant. It’s always a treat to visit, whether for lodging, dining, high tea or just walking through during the holidays. Started by Ohio businessman Henry C. Brown, 2017 is a very special year for the hotel , celebrating 125 years of being opened. And think about this for a moment – that means the hotel hasn’t closed in 125 years! Not one single day. Do they even have a key, we have to wonder? Hotel staff is commemorating the anniversary with a series of special events.
The Brown Palace shared with us a sampling of some of the events happening this year (more are coming and we’ll be updating this post as we hear of new events):
125th Anniversary Hotel Package — This signature package includes overnight legendary accommodations, $125 hotel credit to be used at their elegant restaurants and a collectible 125th anniversary amenity. Prices are from $279 per night.

Bee Royalty Honey Amenity Line Made with Honey from The Brown Palace Bee Hives – Did you know the sweet-smelling, paraben-free Bee Royalty Honey Amenity Line is created with natural essences and honey harvested from the hotel’s rooftop beehives? The little bottles of facial and bath soap, bath gel, shampoo, conditioner and hand and body lotion offered in each guest room contain their honey. There are also Brown Palace honey-infused treatments available in the Spa.
The Brown Palace Atrium Lobby – Your Perfect Pre-Dinner Cocktail Spot – On Fridays and Saturdays from 4:30 – 7:30pm, you can start your night on the town with an elegant cocktail sipped in the beautiful atrium lobby. Amidst the Grand Lobby, this cozy lounge provides an ideal setting for conversation and cocktails. Relish artisan drinks from classic recipes, along with local craft beer and specialty wines from around the world. A small bites menu is also available while enjoying the John Kite Quartet. They are calling these “Lobby Experiences.”
The fine folks at Stranahan’s have created a special, limited edition whiskey utilizing The Brown’s own artesian water from their own well that is down deep underneath the hotel! I had the pleasure of being part of the crew who bottled the commemorative Brown Palace bottles!
