While most of us were taking the day off to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends, many other people were on duty, working hard helping others. The La Brea Bakery decided it would be nice to take nominations from across the country for people such as firefighters, nurses and volunteers who spend the holiday away from their immediate families to better the lives of others. La Brea Bakery invited people to nominate their choices and have the public vote for five winners across the country who, along with their co-workers and their families would be surprised with a full, catered Thanksgiving meal with all the fixins’ at their workplace. Nice idea, right? They called it the #ThanksgivingHero campaign. We love La Brea Bakery bread and, when we heard about this event, wanted to share the news.
One of those five winners from across the country was Colorado’s own Eric Russell and his fellow firefighters at the South Metro Fire Department Station 38, 2460 E Quincy Ave. in Cherry Hills Village. Eric’s daughter, Karissa, nominated him to be honored this Thanksgiving for his 25-plus years of service to the community.
