In one hour’s time on a weekday morning at Gateaux Bakery, I saw two people picking up custom birthday cakes, another pick up a sheet cake for his office, another pick up a bunch of cookies, a woman order a cake for her daughter’s welcome home party and a few people come in for a goodie “just because.” Did I mention it was a weekday morning? I had no idea so much of Denver was indulging their sweet tooth in the midst of the workday.
But why not? One look at the beautiful counter filled to the brim with tasty treats, and the charming Tiffany-blue cafe seating and it’s clear why Gateaux has been a favorite for 28 years!
Located in the Golden Triangle, and opening an additional location with patio and plenty of parking in Stapleton early next year, Gateaux Bakery specializes in sweets. You won’t find loaves of bread or sandwiches here. What you will find is croissants, scones, muffins, cakes, petit fours, shortbread tea cookies, tarts and more. Everything is scratch-baked, made by hand (including all decorating) by a crew of pastry chefs. We took our box of goodies and shared them with a group of eager people. All you could hear were sounds and words of utter pleasure. We all needed a moment afterword.
Gateaux loves the challenge of custom orders (look through their look-book or their social media page for some of the absolutely amazing things they have done) or just buy straight from the counter. I could go on about how delicious everything is there but instead, I’ll just show you these. Drool away – we understand.
