Avengers: Endgame is the pinnacle of cinema. Never before have I been so eager to write a review for a movie, and yet never before has there been a movie for which reviews are practically worthless.
There isn’t much I can tell you about the Avengers series’ conclusion, except that it is as epic as we have dreamt it to be.
After the devastating end to Avengers: Infinity War, the Avengers, Guardians, and their newfound allies seemed helpless in the aftermath of Thanos’ genocide of manic proportions. Yet writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely built upon Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Jim Starlin’s genius foundation of the Marvel Universe and the Russo brothers polished it off into a story for the ages.
The way this movie rips emotions from you is almost unfair. After seeing half the universe turned to dust, I thought myself impenetrable to any grief a movie could throw my way. I was wrong.
Avengers: Endgame is a roller coaster on so many levels, with twists and surprises that audiences have been theorizing about since its announcement, but believe me when I say that nothing can prepare you for what is packed in to this three-hour film.
And yes, it really is three hours. Unfortunately, there are a few choppy scenes along with pacing issues, but considering exactly how many storylines culminate in this one film, I’ll let them pass. Details and tidbits from every one of the 22 movies leading up to Avengers: Endgame are somehow woven into the story with such ingenuity and purpose that it’s baffling. The creators, writers, and directors deserve immense praise.
In fact, the whole cast and crew deserve a massive round of applause. The talented cast, of course, whose charisma and chemistry on and off the screen has brought an elevated sense of authenticity to their characters. The always underappreciated crew, as well, made a masterpiece worthy of breaking all the records it undoubtedly will.
I honestly cannot praise this movie enough. The music, the dynamic between all the characters, the legendary battles, and the all-too-human factors that ground such fantastical elements is the ending this portion of the MCU deserves.
10/10 for Avengers: Endgame and the final cameo of the legend himself, may he R.I.P.
