There’s a Prince, his Princess, and a beautiful firebird that rescues them from the torments of an evil magician and nefarious goblins! Four fun facts about this production:
- In addition to Firebird, you’ll also see a beautiful scene from another ballet, Paquita. Illena Norton, Ballet Ariel Director, chose to pair the ballets because Paquita’s classicism is a nice balance to the wild cacophony of sound and movement that culminates the Firebird ballet.
- Norton has given her own spin to the choreography of Firebird, which was originally created in the early 1900’s by dancer and choreographer Michel Fokine.
- Fokine commissioned the score for Firebird from Igor Stravinsky who was, at the time, a young and unknown composer. But the score catapulted him to fame. You’ll recognize it when you hear it.
- It takes approximately one year to go from selecting a ballet to opening night. And dancers rehearse four days/week, five hours/day. Their commitment and hard work will be evident.
