It’s no lie, Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille, which has opened its first Colorado location (and second outside of its home state of Texas), has one of the biggest hunks o’ meat I’ve ever seen served up at a restaurant. Perry’s Famous Pork Chop ($36.95) is, literally, 7 fingers high. It’s cured, roasted, slow-smoked and caramelized and carved tableside into three different cuts. Just expect to take home leftovers. On Fridays, from 11am-4pm, the only day Perry’s serves lunch, you can get a heck of a deal, a slightly smaller version of the chop, with whipped potatoes and homemade applesauce for $12.95. You can also enjoy a burger, pasta, salads and the like but the pork chop is a real winner and that’s a very affordable way to partake.

Forgive me for getting ahead of myself, heading right into that pork chop – it’s just so good and so ginormous! Perry’s knows its meat. It started out as a family business meat market 30-some years ago so they know how to choose, cut, prepare and serve meat. I met Chris Perry, president and owner of Perry’s. He and his family have often vacationed in Colorado and love the state. So he was really excited to open a restaurant here. Chicago got the only other non-Texas location.

This is a taster portion. When you order the Homemade Polish Sausage, it’s a stack you can dig into. Be sure to have it with the Manhattan 46 cocktail. They were made for each other.

Perry’s does offer appetizers and shareable plates which I got to sample during a special preview before the restaurant opened to the public. The Asian Ahi Tuna Tartare ($15.95) was deliciously delicate and tender, as you would expect. It paired nicely with a Pineapple Ginger Mojito. Homemade Polish Sausage ($11.95 but $7.95 during Social Hour) served in slices, Jenga-style, with BBQ sauce and mustard and Club crackers is a hearty treat. I heartily recommend having it with their dark, rich, Manhattan 46 cocktail. Yum! Another thing Perry’s is famous for is their Signature Fried Asparagus topped with jumbo lump crabmeat ($16.95). It will turn any non-veggie lover into an asparagus fan and gives those of us who already appreciate the stalks, a nice twist.

Perry’s is not the kind of place you run out to for a quick bite. Linger and enjoy. It’s pricey. Entrees run from the mid-$20’s on up into the mid $50’s. Sides like potatoes and veggies are extra, in the $7.95-$11.95 range but are meant to feed two or more. But the food is very good, the atmosphere lovely (there are four private rooms for groups and special occasions), the bar area, Bar 79 is spacious and the bar menu is impressive. There’s live music every night, starting at 6pm and a nice “Social Hour” from 4-6:30pm Monday-Friday and until 9pm on Sunday. One of our favorites, Ricardo Pena, plays every Monday and Wednesday.

Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille is located in The Vistas area of Park Meadows Mall at 8423 Park Meadows Center Drive in Lone Tree.
