We love eating out! Plain and simple. We love trying new places, discovering ones that have been around a long time, and visiting old favorites. Here’s where we’ve been lately and we can tell you, these are restaurants to try now!Restaurants to try now

Restaurants to try now: Jett Sushi
5007 E. Colfax Ave. http://jettsushi.com/

What’s in good taste about it: Jett is one of those places we drive by all the time and say “We should really go there sometime.” Finally, we did and found we’ve been missing out. Crispy Spring Rolls were light and flaky. A whole bunch of Small Plates including Pork Steamed Buns, Creamy Kimchi Pork, Soft Shell Crab and Green Baked Mussels, all between $4-$11 enable you to try a wide variety of dishes. There’s plenty of sushi to choose from, Large Plates like Short Ribs, Sesame Chicken and Tempura Combo and House Ramen & Noodles. The average price is $14 so it’s very affordable. There are screamin’ drank and food specials during their dine-in Happy Hour, Tuesday-Friday, 3-6pm and Sunday-Monday all day. Get $1 beer, $2 sake and food starting at $3. It’s a hell of a deal.

IGTD Must:  Spicy Kimachi Ramen ($13) (stir-fried kimchi with bacon and bean sprout in spicy, creamy miso broth, topped with cilantro, scallion and poached egg) was hearty with just enough heat but not too much. We can imagine needing a hot bowl next time we feel a cold coming on, or a hangover to get over. Yakisoba ($10) is a plate full of Japanese-style pan fried noodle with cabbage, green onions and sprouts. Add chicken or shrimp for $2.

Restaurants to try now: Public School 303
1959 16th Street, http://www.psontap.com/locations/ps303/

What’s in good taste about it: Clever in concept, super-noisy in reality, Public School 303 has some great new items on their Happy Hour and regular menu. Queso Fondido, with sausage and housemade chips is best eaten right away so dig into it fast. Then move on to the Popcorn Shrimp which is light and sticky. Balance out some of the richness of the appetizers with the Red Quinoa Salad.

IGTD Must: The mushroom Flatbread pizza with arugula has great flavor and feels healthy even though it’s pizza. The Reuben Sandwich on the main menu is a buttery, rich, melt-in-your-mouth monster of a thing served with fries. We shared it and were glad we did.

Restaurants to try now: Old Major
3316 Tejon St., https://oldmajordenver.com/

What’s In Good Taste about it: Having just celebrated its 5th anniversary, Old Major, helmed by Chef Justin Brunson, has some major changes coming. There’s a new bar menu with food under $15, new beer and cocktail offerings, TV’s for watching of the sports and extended bar hours. In the dining room, a new autumnal menu featuring steak, scallops, pasta, and salads.

IGTD Musts: Spanish Octopus with beautiful and flavorful parsley shells pasta, Calabrian chile relish, dried olives and bacon. Strube Wagyu Hanger steak, served with gnocchi, brown butter glazed mushrooms, salsa verde and hazelnut gremolata. One plea – serve the amazing bread pudding and ice cream in a shallow bowl, not a cutting board that sent our group rushing to eat the ice cream before it melted off the board. The Vahlrona Chocolate Bar is a real treat with candied orange slivers.

A twig of rich chocolate, so intense and delicious, it’s just enough. Beet sorbet is a nice foil.

Restaurants to try now: Morton’s of Denver
1745 Wazee St., http://www.mortons.com/denver/

What’s In Good Taste about it: Morton’s is an institution around the country, one of the gold standards for a steak dinner, business meetings and date nights. But the Denver location has taken itself out of just the steak house realm, focusing on local purveyors including Rebel Farms, Red Bird Chicken and Tender Belly. Another difference is the availability of full entrees as opposed to just steaks with side dishes, priced separately. They call their happy hour Power Hour(s) and tell us that the portions are very generous. We’ll check it out to see – maybe you should too.

IGTD Musts: Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail is a shrimp-lover’s dream. Grilled Ora King Salmon Fillet served with quinoa, heirloom tomato and arugula pesto is rich and healthy. Chardonnay-braised Wild Mushrooms is a meaty, unbelievably good side dish.

Restaurants to try now: Melita’s Greek Cafe and Market
1035 Lincoln St., https://melitasgreekcafe.com/

What’s In Good Taste about it: Decades ago, this spot, directly across from Channel 4, was the Economy Greek market, a staple in Denver for delicious things such as dried apricot leather, olives, feta, and giant bags of pistachios. I grew up going on “stocking up” shopping trips there with my parents and grandparents. So to see the Melita’s Greek Cafe has been going strong there for years, does my heart good.

IGTD Musts: The Hummus at Melita’s is super creamy and the pita is warm and freshly-grilled, making for a comfort-food start to any meal there. The Gyros sandwich and fries is good and extremely filling. If dining with someone else, consider getting the Greek Salad (with a side of Spanikopita) and go halvsies to create a perfectly-balanced meal that gives you a taste of everything.
