The In Good Taste Denver team loves spreading holiday cheer. And music is one of the best ways to do that. We’ve partnered with our friends at The Colorado Choir to 1. tell you about an upcoming benefit performance happening in November and 2. to offer up two family 4-packs of tickets for their big December Christmas Concert. Here’s what you need to know about both.

Here They Come A-Caroling! The Colorado Choir

As forecasts turn to snow in Colorado, it’s beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas. For almost 50 years, The Colorado Choir has kicked off the holiday season with festive music to kindle our spirits and make our days merry and bright.

November benefit concert:

This year, they begin their season with a matinee preview concert and food drive to benefit Denver’s hungry. Tickets are free (although they suggest a donation of $10 to support the choir) and they ask their audience to bring non-perishable food items for the food drive (see the list of suggested items here). This afternoon concert is a modified, shorter version of their full Christmas concert and is perfect for young children and those who prefer not to drive at night.

A Colorado Choir Christmas Concert + Ticket Giveaway

Their full concerts will be presented on December 1 and 2 at 7:30pm. Both the matinee and evening concerts feature the post-pandemic return of a long-time favorite, singing Christmas carols with the audience, which they haven’t been able to do since 2019.

As the group’s conductor and artistic director, Kelly Parmenter, puts it, “For more than forty years The Colorado Choir has held a tradition of singing Christmas carols with our audiences. I have long enjoyed walking out into the audience to join voices and celebrate the holiday. The recent pandemic forced us to pause that practice. This season, I am pleased to report that the carols are back! We have missed singing with you. Let us join voices once again and celebrate Christmas!”

The evening concerts also feature gorgeous arrangements of holiday favorites such as “Carol of the Bells,” “The Little Drummer Boy,” and “Good King Wenceslas.” Each of the concerts begin with four Christmas motets by French composer Francis Poulenc. These stunning motets are inspired by four scenes from the Nativity story and were some of the composer’s personal favorites.

After several other holiday songs and singing carols with the audience, the evening concert concludes with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” from The Messiah.

This mix of old favorites, spirituals, contemporary pieces, and classical music is a perfect way to set the mood for your holiday season. Learn more and purchase tickets at thecoloradochoir.org.
