Sangria, that fruit-infused, chilled beverage is like a sunset in a glass! But whether its base is red, white, or rose, it’s a great way to amp up wine into something stellar! And with the availability of fresh fruit year-round, it’s possible to make it at home anytime. But, of course, it’s also quite nice to let someone else do the mixing and serving! In honor of National Sangria Day, December 20, here’s where you can celebrate in and around Denver. Oh, and if you do want to make it yourself, we have a recipe to share!

Barcelona Wine Bar is serving the Guns & Rosés sangria, with a foundation of Lillet Rose, a wine-based aperitif and sparkling São João Brut Rosé, plus Woody Creek vodka, peach nectar, fresh lemon, and grapefruit bitters. Get it by the glass or carafe. They also have Red or White Sangria, made with Rioja wine, elderflower, citrus infused dark rum, and guava nectar and available by the glass or by the pitcher.
bartaco is serving three sangrias: The acoustic (la sueca and fruit) to hey miss dragonfly (la sueca, elderflower, libelula joven, lemon, and fruit) or choose the mix and a-mingle (Belinda red wine, spices, ginger, and orange).
La Sandia Denver has $5 sangrias, open until close.

Sugarfire Smoke House is celebrating with a merlot-based sangria with pineapple, oranges, lemon, lime, black cherries and ginger ale for $7.
Tamayo will be serving $5 sangrias from open until close.

And now, a Sangria recipe to celebrate National Sangria Day 2019
Comida, the “Mexican soul food spot” in the Stanley Marketplace, serves seasonal sangria year-round. For the holidays though, they are pouring glasses of their Christmas Sangria through New Years. It starts with a bottle of Malbec combined with brandy, fresh squeezed orange juice and Anjou pear wedges, strawberries, and blackberries. It’s finished with a cinnamon simple syrup. Our thanks to Comida for sharing their recipe with InGoodTasteDenver.com readers. Learn more about some of their other cocktails.
Comida Christmas Sangria:
1 bottle Malbec
1/4 cup Christian Bros Brandy
1/4 cup Fresh Squeezed OJ
2 Anjou pears sliced in wedges
1 pint Strawberries (quartered)
1 small clamshell Blackberries
1 oz Cinnamon Simple Syrup (equal part H2o and sugar with 3 sticks- steeped for a few hours then strained off sticks)

Editor’s note: In general, if you’re going to serve sangria right away, let it sit for a minimum of 15 minutes to allow the fruit juices to mingle with the wine a bit. Otherwise, the fruit is just a bunch of garnish in the glass. Ideally, let it sit in a pitcher, refrigerated, at least 8 hours to really let the flavors bloom. Don’t forget to eat that booze-soaked fruit! Consider it your reward for a glass well-drunk.
