Denver loves its food halls. Now there’s more to love, this time, on South Broadway. Places like Broadway Market are a way for smaller businesses to try out a new concept or a new part of town, dipping their toe in the water on a small scale, without making a huge investment. Then there’s the whole sense of community and support that comes from being under the same roof, looking at each other all day long, yucking it up, maybe borrowing an ingredient, etc. Broadway Market has that co-owner support, locally-owned, small business gumption, in spades.
That was evident the night we got a sneak peek of Broadway Market, which opens February 22. Shop owners meandered around to their neighboring business owners, patting them on the back, giving hugs, sharing smiles and laughs. The team has been together a while, waiting for Broadway Market to open. They’ve had meetings and made plans, compared notes, and are now really excited to finally all be in place, in their new space.

The group of developers behind Broadway Market, Eclectic Collective, includes Mark Shaker, who is behind Stanley Marketplace. Several of the businesses in Broadway Market are from there including Miette at Chocolat, Misaki Sushi, and Maria Empanada. Other occupants include new concepts for some of the established restaurateurs such as Royal Rooster, a burger and chicken sandwich focus from Chef Justin Brunson and team (Old Major, Masterpiece Delicatessen, and Culture Meat & Cheese); Mother Tongue, a Turkish street food stall from Daniel Asher and Josh Dinar (Ash’kara and River and Woods); and Pizzeria Coperta, (from the Beast + Bottle and Coperta team), which offers up two styles of Roman pizza plus Roman street food.

In what used to be the old Tony’s market, which had a fun but snug European street stall feel, Broadway Market opened up the space, literally raising the roof (really, the ceiling), lightening up the colors to predominantly black and white, with the food and drink creating the best accent colors. It’s a place where you can grab a seat, make the rounds of the restaurants, getting some of this and some of that, or create a multi-course dinner. Or grab a bite, take advantage of the wifi and get some work done! That’s gonna be me on many an occasion, even though Broadway Market isn’t in my ‘hood – it’s just such a great atmosphere, I want some of its juju!

Broadway Market is located at 950 Broadway in the Golden Triangle museum district.
