Erika Thomas’ path to her family-run High Point Creamery business has been an unusual one. But it has led her to four Denver scoop shops and distribution of pints of ice cream across the country. I was happy to have Erika join me as a guest on the In Good Taste Denver Podcast to talk about that path, how she comes up with those unique flavors, how she weathered the pandemic, and which flavors she recommends you try next.

For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, you’ll love hearing how two completely unrelated careers and a home-hobby led to opening the first High Point Creamery on Holly Street in Denver.

Erika set out to create ice cream that people weren’t going to get anywhere else. Listen to how she came up with some of her flavors, including a failure that never made it past her kitchen.

Despite her sunny disposition and being in a “happy” business, things got really scary during the pandemic. Hear what it was like for the team. I think you’ll be able to relate to Erika’s initial moments of wondering who was going to come along and tell them how to handle things.

High Point Creamery is a local business, using local ingredients, and it’s family-run, with Erika as the self-titled “Boss Lady.” In the episode, you’ll learn how her years with the business have changed her and her approach to the business.
