When these two met and became fast friends, a common love for serving people really good, vegan food became a shared goal. Lisa carries the self-proclaimed title “Boss Bitch,” and Natalie as “Queen of All Details.” Surely, good things must come from the WongWayVeg food truck with those to women behind (and in) it. Let’s get to know them as part of our continuing series meeting the chefs of Civic Center EATS.

Meet Lisa Wong and Natalie Gilbert of WongWayVeg food truck:
IGTD: What kind of food does your food truck serve?
Lisa and Natalie: Scratch-made vegan comfort food.
IGTD: What led you to open a mobile food business?
Lisa and Natalie: Lisa is from a family of restaurateurs and therefore grew up surrounded by the food scene. Her goal became to bring plant based comfort food to the masses, and show that vegan food can be flavorful, filling, and much more than just pasta and salad! We both love to eat, and love to feed people, so a food truck was a natural fit!

IGTD: What do you feel is unique about the food you serve?
Lisa and Natalie: We love taking family recipes and classic dishes from around the world and adding our own vegan spin to them. We strive to be truly plant based, local, and organic as much as possible.
IGTD: What’s an unsung item on your menu that you’d really encourage people to order?
Lisa and Natalie: Our Vegan Lox Bagel! We use vegan cream cheese, marinated thinly sliced carrots to act as the lox, and top it off with all the fixins’ – capers, tomato, red onion, and fresh dill – also on a freshly baked Rosenberg’s bagel.
IGTD: To spread the love a little, what’s your favorite Colorado food truck to eat from?
Lisa and Natalie: Ahh there are so many! We love the Buffalo & Philly tacos from Migration Taco, the Popcorn Tofu Ramen from Mu Denver, the Boulder Bowl from Basecamp Provisions, the burgers from Veggie Yeti, and the Vegan Pasty from Pasty Republic.
